Marea Craig Embodiment is dedicated to helping you heal from trauma including narcissistic abuse, domestic abuse, physical abuse, emotional abuse, bullying, natural disaster, pandemic, accidental traumatic experiences such as automobile, animal, surgery, and anxiety. We are building stronger more resilient relationships, families, work environments and communities one individual at a time. My training in Somatic Experiencing offers my clients an advantage over pure talk therapy to heal from the effect of an unregulated nervous system. It's important when looking for a pathway to recover from trauma and abuse to find a therapist that is trained in trauma. Specifically, when it comes to narcissistic abuse you need a therapist that understands and gets both trauma and narcissism. Narcissistic abuse and the issues around these difficult relationships and Trauma is a relatively new area that has not formerly been addressed in graduate school or clinical training. You need a therapist that understands the dynamics of narcissism and narcissistic relationships and does not engage in blaming you, one who has the tools to help you recover. |

MAREA CRAIG – DISCHARGING AN UNREGULATED SYSTEM
You've been through a lot. It has left your body's systems unregulated and at the brink of collapse. Unregulated arousal affects all areas of life, from your relationships to your work. You feel the unfolding of your being, stifled. You feel disconnected from yourself, from others, nature, and spirit. You feel your true identity slipped away, lost somewhere among the stress, and overwhelm that has robbed you of your sovereignty. Any attempts to move forward are strangled. You're so uncomfortable. You can't sleep, your feet jitter at night, you can't sustain a thought, your stomach is in knots. You're doing everything you've been told to do, you're doing yoga, exercising four or more days a week, you have a gratitude journal, you meditate, you're thinking positive thoughts, making positive affirmations and you still feel awful. You can't seem to experience joy anymore. You've lost your ability to play. You're working hard and you're exhausted. You're working so hard to be happy and you're still miserable. An unregulated, stressed nervous system cannot be wished away or sidestepped with positivity. In fact, it just prolongs and worsens it with physiological responses of physical disease and disconnection with life and others. But it does not have to be this way. It does not have to be a life sentence. We are in a great season of understanding trauma and anxiety and the tools around those things. We've made leaps and bounds in the last 10-15 years with tools around healing trauma and reclaiming sovereignty. With Somatic Experiencing® we can work with the highly aroused survival energies and allow them to be safely and gradually neutralized. Unregulated arousal previously "locked in" the neuromuscular and central nervous systems can be discharged, losing its gripping influence. You can’t always control the things that are going to happen in life. You’re going to have losses. You are going to experience things that are scary and frightening, however you can strengthen your capacity to manage those experiences in safe and effective ways and come out healthier on the other side. |
